北大教育论坛-美国高等教育研究:历史、专业方向与知识基础

摘要:One of the major issues facing the global study of higher education is its knowledge base. Is it a discipline or field of study? Professor Goodchild reviews the history of the study of Higher Education in the United States from the beginnings to the present and explores the different degree program specializations and their related curricular philosophies. He believed that this study is best characterized by being a multidisciplinary field of study. On the other hand, he sees three emerging curricular purposes that characterize the study better as: (1) a professional field of study for administrative education and training, (2) a problem-based field of study for educating and training researchers, and (3) a multidisciplinary field of academic study for future faculty members. Such a resolution moves beyond the older field versus discipline debate, at least in the United States.
