Liberal Arts Education in the United States,History, Rhetoric, and Reality

Peter A. J. Englert 教授 (夏威夷大学前校长)

Based on a general history, using critical analysis, the development of liberal education in the American colonial colleges and their transformation into a key component of contemporary United States higher education curricula is evaluated. Case studies of general and liberal education undergraduate curricula and their application within and across higher education institutions and system components are presented. They illuminate the tension between projected and actual function of liberal education.
